Real Life Ramblings

03/22/19

Well it’s been a hot minute since I wrote one of these posts but once again I’m trying to bring them back and be more consistent with them. It’s a fun way to wrap up the week and share some of my favorite random things from around the web and update you with what’s going on.

Vintage Bar Cart Vignette

Sometimes I forget that I have people who only subscribe to my blog through email and don’t follow me on social media so forgive me for being absent lately! I took the kiddos to Costa Rica for two weeks on vacation and we had the best time! Dan’s schedule is crazy right now and he’s gone a lot so I thought I’d make some of that time go faster by packing up and heading someplace warm.

My family has a home in Costa Rica and my parents spend 3 months of the winter there so we spent 2 weeks with them soaking up the sun and enjoying a slower pace of life. This was the kids first time there and first trip out of the country and they both did so well. They loved every minute of it and I can’t wait to take them back again soon.

So now we’re back and I’m still trying to play catch up from being away for so long. But it was totally worth it.

If you don’t follow me on instagram then you probably don’t know that our new island countertop FINALLY arrived. I talked about it back in my Budget Kitchen Makeover post a loooong time ago. The process just took quite a bit longer than expected but it’s here and it’s gorgeous and we’ll hopefully be installing it soon!

Custom Wood Butcher Block Countertop

A little update on our half bath – the tile is in, I’m just waiting on my FIL to install the tile. He’s got some big jobs keeping him busy at work right now so when things slow down a bit for him he’ll be able to get that going for us. Hoping it’s soon!

My next project I want to work on is sprucing up our little bar area in our dining room. I never decorated it too much after the One Room Challenge reveal and have kind of neglected it since. I’ve always struggled with what to put on the walls so I’m currently trying to figure that out. I’m drawing some major inspo from the above photo taken by Monica Wang though.

FAVS FROM THE WEEK

I bought this All Natural Honey Simple Syrup to add to our bar cart. Pretty & functional = a win win.

With spring officially here (even though it doesn’t feel like it) I’ve been adding a few things to my wardrobe like this cute Camo Sweat Dress. Because I hardly ever wear real clothes ha.

So much encouragement from this quote I found on Pinterest.

Serena and Lily is having a huge sale on their site until the 25th. 20% using code INSPO.

We have some new neighbors who moved in across the street so I thought I’d try out this Brown Butter and Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe to bring them. I might have to keep a few 😉

Dan’s home opener is this weekend and it looks like we’ll have some nice weather for it so you can find us at the ballpark! Hope you all have a great weekend!

It’s in Newport, Rhode Island and we got to hear all about the design process from @bpatrickflynn who did an incredible job once again. I always love hearing what inspires a designer and where their inspiration comes from. And since we’re knee deep in an exterior makeover, it was so fun to hear all about how this home’s exterior was brought to life with the help of @belgardoutdoorliving. It got me thinking about the hardscape of our backyard plans which wasn’t something I had thought much about. It’s a great way to create more livable space with things like patios, outdoor kitchens and fire pits. And they recently launched the Belgard Rooms Program which allows you to visualize exactly what your space can be. They’re kindly offering up a fire pit kit for me to give away to one of you so be sure to head to my stories to enter! Are you working on any fun outdoor makeovers this year?

More forsythia spam because they bring happiness t More forsythia spam because they bring happiness to any room 😍 our bush is already almost green but they sure are pretty while they last! It was about a year ago that we were getting ready to rip out this bathroom and start demo. The last bathroom in our home that needed updating and I had so much fun designing it! You probably wouldn’t know it was a kids bathroom but I’ve always been a huge believer in not having to sacrifice beauty when designing spaces for my kids. I love the challenge of keeping it in line with my aesthetic while still making it functional and fun for them. But I did put their toothbrushes away for this pic 🤪 happy hump day! #breinspired

And so is my newly planked porch ceiling 🙌🏻 have you been following along in stories? Today I’m going to figure out what color to stain it! Happy Friday friends 🤍 #breinspired #freshblooms #springhassprung

I’ve watered them TWICE already since bringing them home which you know is a big deal for me 🤣 they may actually survive 🤞🏻still totally clueless on what color to paint our house but I think I found a solution for our vinyl windows! Will be sharing in stories today for anyone else with the same problem!

Just over here obsessing over the plans @yardzen c Just over here obsessing over the plans @yardzen created for our exterior makeover! 😱😍 our back deck is in desperate need of an update and I’m so excited to be tackling this project this year. You guys know I love making a mood board/mock up before starting a project but these are on a whole different level 🙌🏻 they totally brought my vision to life and were so awesome to work with. And they just launched in Ohio this month! I’m getting ready to start ordering some materials and can’t wait to turn these plans into reality 👊🏻 oh and check in to stories later today to find out if my FIL is on board with painting the house dark! 😬
Sometimes you just need to call in a pro to get th Sometimes you just need to call in a pro to get the job done 💡 I’ve been wanting sconces above our couch for a while now and decided to finally do it! The only lighting we have in here is overhead so we’ve lacked that cozy night time glow while watching tv, reading a book or just hanging. So not only are these pretty but they’re practical too - good lighting is a total game changer and I’m all about setting the right mood for a space. Totally worth hiring an electrician to make my sconce dreams come true! 😍
