DIY Monthly Photo Garland and Girl’s First Birthday

02/13/17

How can Eloise already be one?! I didn’t want to do anything too crazy for this girls first birthday, but the blogger in me couldn’t resist a cute little dessert table. I wanted to incorporate some photos and thought this DIY Monthly Photo Garland would be perfect.

DIY MONTHLY PHOTO GARLAND

Monthly Photo Garland

This post is sponsored by Mixbook. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own. Affiliate links are included.

There are SO many photos on my phone and I am usually pretty bad about getting them off and actually printed. I’ve also been really bad about filling out Eloise’s baby book but I figured this little project would kill two birds with one stone. Cute decor and photos to add to her baby book.

If you haven’t heard of Mixbook they’re an awesome site where you can print your photos, make photo books, personalized home decor, you name it. I decided to use their 5×5 photo prints to make my garland and was so happy with how easy the whole process was. You just select the photos from your computer you want to print, add them to your cart, and order. Easy peasy.

Monthly Photos For Garland

It was so fun looking at these pics and watching her expressions change over the months. Such a little goober <3

Supplies for DIY Monthly Photo Garland

  • photos
  • string
  • mini clothespins

Photo garland Supplies

STEP 1

Cut your string long enough to fit all the photos plus extra on both ends for hanging.

Baby Photo garland

STEP 2

Clip your photos to the string. I used two clothespins per photo but you could also just use one depending on the size of your pictures.

STEP 3

Hang it up! I used two small thumbtacks on either side of the photo backdrop to hang up the garland which worked perfectly.

Then it was time to decorate!

First Birthday Decor

I can’t even get over how cute this little cake is!

Adding some fun tassels to the highchair was a great way to jazz up her seat. They’re similar to this Tassel Garland I created. I attached them by using some duct tape – not super classy but it worked!

Birthday Girl Crown

Eloise wasn’t super into her cake. She ate a few licks of frosting but mainly just squished it all between her fingers and then started crying ha. But it was the perfect day and I had so much fun planning this little set up and creating her DIY Monthly Photo Garland! I think I’m going to make her wear that little crown every year for her birthday 🙂

I can’t believe she’s already one, it’s crazy to me! If you want to walk down memory lane with me, check out her birth story.

Thanks again to Mixbook for helping make my dreams girls first birthday come to life!

Hello, this look is gorgeous did you make the cake yourself? I just wondered if you piped the icing in the middle? I’ve just started to experiment with naked cakes.
    Thank you in advance!

Thank you! I actually found ones similar at the dollar section of Target. What is the size of the gold macrame rings? I would like to do the same string tassel garland and then use it to decorate her room.

More and more lately we’re realizing the importance of family and nurturing those relationships. This was the perfect place to unwind, reconnect and enjoy an adventure together without worrying about capturing it all on our phones. As always, there’s two sizes for you to choose from and a short easy tutorial for you to follow to make the cute little wooden stand too 📅 My little office nook has gone through a lot of phases since we first moved in 4.5 years ago (swipe through to see them all!) and last year I finally upgraded my desk to one I could properly sit at 🤣 I took two Alex drawers from IKEA and added wood trim and caning for an elevated look and topped it off with a faux butcher block counter made from a $30 door slab. 👊🏻 the cherry on top for this space was our new skylight that instantly brightened it up and brings in so much beautiful natural light ☀️ this nook never felt quite right until now and I’m excited to spend more time here this year working on lots of exciting projects! Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected I’m focusing on all the good that came out of it. I remember sitting with Dan New Year’s Eve last year and being so hopeful for what our future held and praying it would bring us another baby after we had been trying with no luck. I found out only a couple weeks later I was pregnant and that joy carried us through the year even though it brought fear and worry along with it. Besides welcoming our sweet baby girl into our lives we experienced so many other amazing things. The time we got to spend as a family is something we’ll always cherish. We worked on so many projects together and continued to pour our hearts into making this house a place we can call home. And we built A LOT of arches 🤣 Eloise was on the cover of a magazine, Hawk’s hair grew back in full force, we beat Covid and captain Christmas reminded us what the holiday season is really about. but most importantly we leaned into god and relied on him more than ever to get us through each day. That’s the relationship I want to continue to work on and I’m grateful that this year nudged me closer to the One who deserves all the glory and continues to be faithful 🙏🏻 happy new year friends 🤍 cheers to 2021 🍾
