DIY Modern Dog Food Holder

02/08/17

It’s time for another Monthly DIY Challenge and this month is all about 1x2s. I actually used 1x2s to make the Geometric Wood Wall in the laundry room so if you missed that post, go check it out now! But for today’s project, I made something a little easier and something I’ve been wanting to make for a while now.

Oaks is such a good model isn’t he?? He’ll do anything when treats are involved 😉 Ok so here’s what you need!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR DIY MODERN DOG FOOD HOLDER

*affiliate links included
:: one 1x2x6 premium pine board
:: one 12″ wide pine board
:: DAP Rapid Fuse Glue
:: Stain
:: Poly
:: Jigsaw

So if you want you can have the store cut your pine boards for you. I used our mitre saw to cut the 1×2.

Miter Saw For Wood Dog Bowl Holder

Here are the measurements:

4 pieces at 8.5″ long

2 pieces at 25.5″ long

My other board is 25.5″ x 12″ and once that was cut I used our old dog food holder to draw circles on it to use as a guide.

Now cutting the circles is definitely the hardest part of this whole project. I used this jigsaw which I’ve only used once a really long time ago.

Jig Saw

Make sure you clamp your board to something really well and it isn’t wiggly. I used our table saw which worked pretty well. Then I started by drilling a hole as close to the line of the circle as possible to give myself something to start. Make sure your hole is big enough to fit the blade in. Ignore the hole in the middle, that one was unnecessary 😉

It didn’t go all that smoothly, but it got the job done. You have a lot of wiggle room because once the bowls are in, you can’t tell how terrible the circles really are ha.

Dog Bowl Cutouts

I used my favorite wood glue to piece everything together and let it dry overnight.

Once it was dry, I stained it using Dark Walnut Stain and then applied a couple coats of Poly and it was good to go!

Oaks is a big fan and it totally matches the vibe of the laundry room better than our old one. If you want to see another example of this, check out my friend Sarah’s DIY Pedestal Dog Feeders.

    Oh my God, Oaks’s eyes, they are so beautiful and that food holder is such a creative idea. Looks like I could put this into use. I mean the aesthetics are on point after all. Great job.

    I LOVE your pet bowl stand! It came out super pretty and clearly Oaks is a fan. What a good boy! 😀 Also thank you for showing the “truth” of making a circle with a jig saw, I’ve been wondering whether that’s easy or not, lol!

More and more lately we’re realizing the importance of family and nurturing those relationships. This was the perfect place to unwind, reconnect and enjoy an adventure together without worrying about capturing it all on our phones. We went for a hike, sat by the fire, ate wayyy too many pastries and cheeses and loved every minute of it. Sharing a video tour in stories today! As always, there’s two sizes for you to choose from and a short easy tutorial for you to follow to make the cute little wooden stand too 📅 My little office nook has gone through a lot of phases since we first moved in 4.5 years ago (swipe through to see them all!) and last year I finally upgraded my desk to one I could properly sit at 🤣 I took two Alex drawers from IKEA and added wood trim and caning for an elevated look and topped it off with a faux butcher block counter made from a $30 door slab. 👊🏻 the cherry on top for this space was our new skylight that instantly brightened it up and brings in so much beautiful natural light ☀️ this nook never felt quite right until now and I’m excited to spend more time here this year working on lots of exciting projects! Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected I’m focusing on all the good that came out of it. I remember sitting with Dan New Year’s Eve last year and being so hopeful for what our future held and praying it would bring us another baby after we had been trying with no luck. I found out only a couple weeks later I was pregnant and that joy carried us through the year even though it brought fear and worry along with it. Besides welcoming our sweet baby girl into our lives we experienced so many other amazing things. The time we got to spend as a family is something we’ll always cherish. We worked on so many projects together and continued to pour our hearts into making this house a place we can call home. And we built A LOT of arches 🤣 Eloise was on the cover of a magazine, Hawk’s hair grew back in full force, we beat Covid and captain Christmas reminded us what the holiday season is really about. but most importantly we leaned into god and relied on him more than ever to get us through each day. That’s the relationship I want to continue to work on and I’m grateful that this year nudged me closer to the One who deserves all the glory and continues to be faithful 🙏🏻 happy new year friends 🤍 cheers to 2021 🍾
