DIY Mini Chalkboard Notebooks

01/11/17

Hi friends! We’re on our way back from Cali today but I managed to get this month’s DIY Challenge post written before we left. I was cutting it close, but banged this sucker out the night before we left. Phew. Ok so this month is all about Chalkboard. I admit I struggled with this. I’m just kinda over the whole chalkboard scene (except when used in restaurants) but wanted to still make something I would actually use.

With the new year, come new goals and new lists and even though I always have my phone on or near me, I still like to actually write things down. It just makes them feel more real, and it’s much more satisfying being able to cross something off your list. So I decided to make these cute little DIY Mini Chalkboard Notebooks.

STEP 1

Paint your notebooks with your chalkboard paint. I found the notebooks at the grocery store for $.97. Spread the pages out and then put some scrap paper behind both covers to make sure you don’t get paint on any of the other pages.

STEP 2

Print out the words you want on the cover of your notebooks.

Mini Notebook Labels

STEP 3

Flip them all over and color the backsides with a pencil.

Simple Tracing Tip

STEP 4

Place the paper right side up on your notebook where you want the letters/numbers to be.

STEP 5

Trace over the letters with your pencil and you’ll be left with this:

STEP 6

Fill in your letters with your chalk marker.

STEP 7

You could totally leave them like that but I used some leather I had left over from last month’s challenge to add a fun accent on the binding. I just cut it to size and glued it on with some super glue.

And now I have some cute little notebooks to write down my to-do lists and goals in. Something about their size just makes them that much cuter, don’t you think? Everything is better when it’s mini šŸ˜‰

Bre, these are the cutest! I am so impressed, you came up with a really clever and fresh take on the chalkboard trend (which I agree needs to be put to rest). Love these little notebooks!

Our laundry room was the first room we renovated w Our laundry room was the first room we renovated when we moved into this home. Mainly because it was the room my FIL had the least emotional attachment to 🤣 I still love it today but have been needing a little change. I’m in this room ALL the time, and was getting bored of looking at the same stuff! So I switched out the laundry basket, hung some artwork on the tile and changed up my vase and greenery. And it instantly feels just different enough to put a smile on my face and kinda make me want to fold all the kids laundry that’s been sitting in the dryer for far too many days 😜 little changes that make a big impact are my favorite šŸ™ŒšŸ» truthfully: I daydream about painting the cabinets in here too - they read darker in photos but in real life are much more blue. I’ll save that for another day šŸ˜‰ but for now I’ll stick to painting my bookcase. Head to stories to catch the first stroke of black! šŸ–¤

Dilly or the new legs we added to my barrister bookcase? šŸ˜ you know I’m all about repurposing around here and I love that we were able to take legs and other curved pieces from a $20 table I found on Facebook marketplace and add them to this guy! It wasn’t easy and if you get real close you’ll see lots of screws and chipped veneer šŸ˜‚ but they’re on and I love them. Celebrating slow progress - because that’s how I’m rolling these days 🤪 can’t wait to start painting soon! #breinspired

I love finding unique treasures that add character to our home, but sometimes they need a little TLC. And on that note, I should probably go water him 🤪 what’s one plant you have the best luck keeping alive?
