Glossy Sewing Table Makeover

GLOSSY SEWING TABLE MAKEOVER

glossy sewing table makeover

I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of a glossy finish on furniture. I prefer more of a matte finish and that’s typically what I stick to for my makeovers. But when DecoArt sent me some of their new Americana Decor Maxx Gloss paint, I was excited to give it a try.

First I needed a piece to try it on. I found this old sewing table at a local thrift store, which already went under one paint job, but it needed a little refresher.

There was still actually a sewing machine in it, but I took it out because it weighed SO much and I could barely move the table on my own with it in there. I’m not even sure if it still works.

Before getting started I gave the whole table a light sanding and then got right in with the paint. I used the color Hematite; a very pretty grey.

Once I started painting, I did notice the paint was a little stickier than chalk paints, which I typically work with, but it did go on super smooth and even with the first brush stroke I could see the high-gloss sheen starting to form.

It may have been because I was working with an already painted table, but I really only needed one coat with this stuff. A couple areas I gave two coats, like the top, but other than that the coverage was great.

It dries pretty fast and you can tell it’s a durable finish before even sealing it.

The grey was a perfect neutral base to add some fun paper and a pretty new knob 🙂

I can definitely see the perks of using such a high gloss product. The finish is super durable and would be really easy to clean. This paint comes in 20 great colors and you can find it at Michaels (in-store & online), Home Depot (select stores & online), Jo-Ann Fabric & Crafts Stores (in-store & online), and Meijer.

It was so fun trying out a new product. This is definitely the way to go if you’re looking for a more modern, clean look.

How do you feel about glossy finishes?

Nice makeover Bre! Love the color, that pretty knob, and the papered sides. You’ve intrigued me to give the Maxx Gloss a try – now I need to find the perfect piece to give a makeover.

This is a really pretty color! I love the paper you added to the side, too! I have a container of this paint (different color) at my craft desk that I’ve been meaning to try – I will do that sooner rather than later because I love how yours turned out!

Always amazed at the wonderful colors you pick to re-do a piece. Gorgeous! I have a sewing machine in a table just like this that could use freshening up. Question: did you paint the inside of the cabinet door and flip-side of the top? Should I do that if I’m still using the sewing machine in the cabinet? Thanks!!

That knob! *swoon* The whole piece looks great

As a mom of littles, glossy paint and I have become BFFs! Our entire house is painted with flat wall paint and it is horrible. Nothing comes off of them.

I am glad to see how this paint works. I was wondering if it would show brush marks too much. But I love how yours came out. I have to think of something to try it on. I have been loving the matte look forever, I am ready to change it up with some shine!

It doesn’t show brush strokes at all! It’s almost like once you paint it on it just kind of smooths itself out. I love the matte look but this was definitely fun to try!

I saw it at Jo-Ann recently and wondered how it would work. I usually prefer a chalk finish, too, but sometimes a glossy finish is what a piece needs. Looking forward to trying it!

Love it! I also chose a sewing table to paint with my sample of Maxx gloss and used the same color! :). Gotta admit, I’m feeling pretty proud that for one minute, my brain thought just like yours… 😉

Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected I’m focusing on all the good that came out of it. I remember sitting with Dan New Year’s Eve last year and being so hopeful for what our future held and praying it would bring us another baby after we had been trying with no luck. I found out only a couple weeks later I was pregnant and that joy carried us through the year even though it brought fear and worry along with it. Besides welcoming our sweet baby girl into our lives we experienced so many other amazing things. The time we got to spend as a family is something we’ll always cherish. We worked on so many projects together and continued to pour our hearts into making this house a place we can call home. And we built A LOT of arches 🤣 Eloise was on the cover of a magazine, Hawk’s hair grew back in full force, we beat Covid and captain Christmas reminded us what the holiday season is really about. but most importantly we leaned into god and relied on him more than ever to get us through each day. That’s the relationship I want to continue to work on and I’m grateful that this year nudged me closer to the One who deserves all the glory and continues to be faithful 🙏🏻 happy new year friends 🤍 cheers to 2021 🍾
