How to Create a Watercolor Quote in Photoshop

Hi guys! You might remember a couple weeks ago when I shared this freebie, and I asked if any of you would be interested in learning how I made it. Well some of you said yes and I’m here today to show you!

I get asked all the time what program I use to make my freebies, and there isn’t one straight answer. As a designer, I use Adobe Creative Suite and depending on the design, I use either Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign. And sometimes I use a combination of them. I know most people don’t have these programs, trust me I know they’re expensive. I’m still using the version I got in college with my student discount 😉

Wanna know a secret though? You can download a FREE 30 day trial of any of them from Adobe’s website!

This is my first video, so hopefully I explained everything well and don’t sound silly.

Download the Watercolor Brushes HERE and visit Design Seeds for some color inspiration!

Let me know if you had any issues with the video! I’d like to do more of these so I want

Hi Kelli! Did you open the brushes tab and scroll all the way down to the bottom? That’s where it added them for me. They might be hiding down there!

Hi! I am loving your technique here and it is EXACTLY what I want to do for some artwork for my entryway. I have Photoshop but am NOT well practiced with it. I can follow directions, however, and was able to complete everything you instructed. Here’s my problem and I’m hoping you know of a setting I can switch on/off to make it work. When I switch to the brush tool and click on my blank layer, one click makes it BAM full strength color. There’s no multi-clicking to get darker colors. It means that all of my brush strokes are opaque and it looks more like someone spattered paint instead of brushed watercolors. I’ve certainly tried online helps but I’m having a hard time even wording my question to then know which menu to search. I know its a long shot- but I’m so close to getting this that I don’t want to totally give up yet!! Thanks so much for putting this together for us novices 🙂

Hey Jen! I’m glad this tutorial was helpful! If you haven’t figured it out already, you should just be able to adjust the opacity of your brush. That way it won’t be full strength right off the bat. In my version of Photoshop there is a little box right along the top menu when I have my brush clicked on. If you have trouble finding it, just go to the “help” menu in Photoshop and search opacity. Hope that helps!

You are a genius! I saw that earlier but assumed it was the same as the opacity slider on the right side of my screen that kept changing the opacity for the whole layer at once. Tricky Photoshop 😉 Thanks so much!! Can’t wait to get this finished and hung up!!

Same here! I got great feedback from it so I guess I’ll have to do more. And the job is going great! Definitely still adjusting to working full time but it’s challenging me in new creative ways which is great 🙂

This is seriously so cool and helpful! I haven’t opened up Photoshop in a while – I always seem to use Illustrator for everything, but now I’m going to open up PS more to play 🙂 Thanks for the awesome video!
