Marsala Makeover :: 10 Days of Valentines

Ok, I admit it, I was a Marsala hater when I first found out it was the Color of the Year. Reds aren’t usually my jam and I never planned on using it. That is until Porch and Valspar asked if I wanted to participate in their 10 Days of Valentines and I just couldn’t say no!

Valspar sent us a GALLON of Marsala. I seriously don’t know what I’m going to do with the rest of this paint. And Porch sent us a mystery object which ended up being a stencil.

Marsala Makeover :: 10 Days of Valentines

I really wanted to do some sort of cute Valentine’s Day craft but I just couldn’t think of one. And I mean, come on, I had a GALLON of paint. So I painted some furniture 🙂

I picked up this piece recently when I was out doing some thrifting. It’s got great bones and I just love those little round feet.

Marsala Makeover :: 10 Days of Valentines

I started out by giving the piece a light sanding and then applying a couple coats of primer. I followed that with about 4 coats of Marsala to get good, even coverage and the whole piece was sealed using General Finishes Satin Topcoat.

Gold accents were also part of the plan, but I didn’t want it to be overkill. The original hardware was staying but needed some freshening up, so I used some Antique Gold Rub’n Buff. The only ones I replaced were the top two with some cute little hearts. I debated outlining each panel of the drawers in gold as well, but decided to just do the feet instead. I think it balances it out perfectly 🙂

Now you’re probably wondering where I used the stencil right?? Well, after giving the inside of the drawers a coat of gold spray paint…

Marsala Makeover :: 10 Days of Valentines

Using my little mini plunger, as I like to call it, I used some more Marsala to apply this fun stencil to the inside.

I bought a big piece of furniture that has a record player and radio and speakers built in. I want to do this same thing to it! However when I went to Lowe’s they did not have Marsala paint or know what it is.. Is it new for 2015? I ended up buying Farmhouse Garnet but have not started painting yet.

Hi Moey! Hmm that’s strange. It’s the 2015 Color of the Year, but I don’t think it’s a brand new color. I got mine from Valspar. Maybe try looking online?

I was thinking about this corner the other day whe I was thinking about this corner the other day when I was showering and what it used to be. Before we gutted this space there was a vanity and sink in this spot - right outside the door to the old bathroom. Which had it’s own vanity and sink. Practical or unnecessary? Clearly I felt the latter 😂 I’m not much of a sit down and do my makeup kind of girl and if Dan is in the bathroom and I need to use the sink, I’m busting in on him 🤪 so we turned this corner into a little sitting area with some useable storage that is MUCH more practical for us. And if you’re wondering, I do actually sit there, usually to blow dry my hair 💁🏻‍♀️ if you have an older house, what’s a quirky feature it has/had?

Our laundry room was the first room we renovated w Our laundry room was the first room we renovated when we moved into this home. Mainly because it was the room my FIL had the least emotional attachment to 🤣 I still love it today but have been needing a little change. I’m in this room ALL the time, and was getting bored of looking at the same stuff! So I switched out the laundry basket, hung some artwork on the tile and changed up my vase and greenery. And it instantly feels just different enough to put a smile on my face and kinda make me want to fold all the kids laundry that’s been sitting in the dryer for far too many days 😜 little changes that make a big impact are my favorite 🙌🏻 truthfully: I daydream about painting the cabinets in here too - they read darker in photos but in real life are much more blue. I’ll save that for another day 😉 but for now I’ll stick to painting my bookcase. Head to stories to catch the first stroke of black! 🖤
