Antique Humidor Table :: Themed Furniture Makeover Day

Date
Nov, 20, 2014

Ok now onto Themed Furniture Makeover Day ๐Ÿ™‚ And this month’s theme was…RED! I’ll admit, I’m really not a big red person. Unless it’s plaid and flannel, then I’m all over it. But you’ve probably noticed I’ve never done a red furniture makeover. Until now, when I gave this antique red humidor table a makeover!

ANTIQUE RED HUMIDOR TABLE

Antique Humidor Table

So if you’ve been following me for a while, you might remember when I shared this little guy back in the summer. I picked it up from a friend who just wanted to get rid of it, so of course I took it ๐Ÿ™‚

I originally thought it was an old ice box, but came to learn that it was an old humidor table. Here’s what it looked like when I first got it:

Before Humidor Table

And the inside had this nasty old tin box.

Inside Antique Humidor

As you can tell it was in pretty rough shape, but I just couldn’t bring myself to paint over the red and it would have been a pain to try and sand down all the imperfections. The top veneer was chipping pretty bad though so I did remove that and give it a fresh new look with some stain.

Stripping Veneer off Humidor

I used the same method to remove the veneer that I used on this table. And then used Minwax’s Dark Walnut. Did you think I would use anything else? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Stained Humidor

Luckily the tin box on the inside was super easy to remove and the wood underneath was in pretty good shape. I decided to just give it a coat of paint to freshen it up using Country Chic’s Hurricane, which I previously used in this MCM Tallboy Makeover.

Painted Inside Humidor Table

Final step was adding some new hardware and this guy was ready for his beauty shots!

Please note this is what my view to the right of me was while I was photographing, bundled up like an eskimo. Too bad my backdrop weighs a million pounds and there’s no room for it inside ๐Ÿ™

Snowy Day

BRRRR! I want summer.

I’m really glad I didn’t paint over the red and think the small updates I made were just what this little guy needed ๐Ÿ™‚ What do you think?!

Be sure to check out all the other RED goodness below and have a fabulous day everyone!

This turned out great. I feel ya with the weather thing. I need to make a backdrop someday but maybe one that can be moved inside – BUT you get the best light outside! Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece on Show Me Saturday!

And you must love near the FOund & Foraged gals because we too are bundled up like little eskimos. What happened to fall??? Pinned your beautiful table and we hope to see you again this Saturday!
