Headboard Turned Distressed Quilt Rack

10/15/14

Thank you to DecoArt Paint for supplying the product for this project. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.

Hi friends! I’m super excited to share this project with you today that I made as a birthday gift for my mom. She loves to quilt and needed a new place to display some of her creations. She originally mentioned that she wanted a ladder, but after visiting the antique store down the street, I spotted this old spindle headboard and knew it would be perfect!

HEADBOARD TURNED DISTRESSED QUILT

RACK

Headboard Quilt Rack

I teased some of you last week when I posted this picture on my Facebook page…

Distressed Quilt Rack

And someone did guess blanket holder which was very close! And how I used it to take pictures 🙂

I started by sawing off the ends so they weren’t sticking out so far, and then got to work with the paint.

Thrifted Headboard

I was super excited to finally getting around to trying out some DecoArt paint! This color is called Smitten 🙂 It goes on really smooth and distresses very easily. I put on two coats and made sure not to cover the spindles entirely. I loved the way the original wood looked as well as the dimension it gives the piece.

Painted Headboard

So once that was done, you know I couldn’t just leave it as is 🙂 I had to add SOMETHING to give it that extra special Brepurposed touch and I remembered I had this lace burlap left over from another project and knew it would be absolutely perfect!

Lace Burlap

I paired it with some lovely nail head to secure it on there and am pleased to say this was the easiest time I’ve ever had with these darn things. They went in quite easily and no curse words were spoken 🙂

Burlap and Nailhead Trim

I used a blanket for photographing purposes, but my mom will be using it for her beautiful quilts! I gave it to her when I was home this past weekend and she absolutely loves it 🙂 I’m so glad I was able to find this headboard and love the uniqueness of it.

Have you ever seen any old headboards like this and turned it into something new?

Hope you all have a fabulous hump day 🙂

How cute!! I love seeing things repurposed in such a cool way. I never would have thought to turn it on its side like that. Nice! I have an old crib that I can’t sell or even donate (since it has a drop side, and they’re now “banned” to sell or donate). I think I’ll do something similar with its sides.

Though I do not receive free samples of the Americana Decor chalky paint, I have been using it for about a year. I love its smooth finish. The headboard is lovely repurposed as a quilt rack. I have yet to try Smitten, but I am attracted to the way it looks on this piece. If you have time, I have a link party Make It Monday which begins oddly enough on Sunday nights at 7PM Eastern, I would love to see your headboard there.

A couple weeks ago I had the chance to virtually t A couple weeks ago I had the chance to virtually tour the @hgtv Dream Home 2021! It’s in Newport, Rhode Island and we got to hear all about the design process from @bpatrickflynn who did an incredible job once again. I always love hearing what inspires a designer and where their inspiration comes from. And since we’re knee deep in an exterior makeover, it was so fun to hear all about how this home’s exterior was brought to life with the help of @belgardoutdoorliving. It got me thinking about the hardscape of our backyard plans which wasn’t something I had thought much about. It’s a great way to create more livable space with things like patios, outdoor kitchens and fire pits. And they recently launched the Belgard Rooms Program which allows you to visualize exactly what your space can be. They’re kindly offering up a fire pit kit for me to give away to one of you so be sure to head to my stories to enter! Are you working on any fun outdoor makeovers this year?

More forsythia spam because they bring happiness t More forsythia spam because they bring happiness to any room 😍 our bush is already almost green but they sure are pretty while they last! It was about a year ago that we were getting ready to rip out this bathroom and start demo. The last bathroom in our home that needed updating and I had so much fun designing it! You probably wouldn’t know it was a kids bathroom but I’ve always been a huge believer in not having to sacrifice beauty when designing spaces for my kids. I love the challenge of keeping it in line with my aesthetic while still making it functional and fun for them. But I did put their toothbrushes away for this pic 🤪 happy hump day! #breinspired
I look forward to our forsythia blooming every spr I look forward to our forsythia blooming every spring so I can cut some branches to bring inside 😍 this little vignette is bringing a smile to my face today! And so is my newly planked porch ceiling 🙌🏻 have you been following along in stories? Today I’m going to figure out what color to stain it! Happy Friday friends 🤍 #breinspired #freshblooms #springhassprung

Happy Friday from Puffball the Pothos and Banana Happy Friday from Puffball the Pothos and Banana Sugar Plum the Button Fern 😂🌿I asked Eloise to name my new plants for me and she didn’t disappoint. I’ve watered them TWICE already since bringing them home which you know is a big deal for me 🤣 they may actually survive 🤞🏻still totally clueless on what color to paint our house but I think I found a solution for our vinyl windows! Will be sharing in stories today for anyone else with the same problem!
THIS MIRROR 😍 I swear it looks good anywhere, i THIS MIRROR 😍 I swear it looks good anywhere, in anyone’s home, no matter your style. And It’s sitting here on my little antique entry table because I’m an #anthroambassador - pinch me! Walking through an @anthropologie store is an experience that hits all your senses in exactly the right spots. And makes you want to buy all the things you never knew you needed 😂 they have a way of creating an aesthetic that appeals to everyone and I’m so excited I get to share more of this amazing company with you guys that I’ve admired for so long! #anthropartner #anthroliving #myanthropologie
Just over here obsessing over the plans @yardzen c Just over here obsessing over the plans @yardzen created for our exterior makeover! 😱😍 our back deck is in desperate need of an update and I’m so excited to be tackling this project this year. You guys know I love making a mood board/mock up before starting a project but these are on a whole different level 🙌🏻 they totally brought my vision to life and were so awesome to work with. And they just launched in Ohio this month! I’m getting ready to start ordering some materials and can’t wait to turn these plans into reality 👊🏻 oh and check in to stories later today to find out if my FIL is on board with painting the house dark! 😬
Sometimes you just need to call in a pro to get th Sometimes you just need to call in a pro to get the job done 💡 I’ve been wanting sconces above our couch for a while now and decided to finally do it! The only lighting we have in here is overhead so we’ve lacked that cozy night time glow while watching tv, reading a book or just hanging. So not only are these pretty but they’re practical too - good lighting is a total game changer and I’m all about setting the right mood for a space. Totally worth hiring an electrician to make my sconce dreams come true! 😍
