Blue Side Table Makeover & Mixing Chalk Paint

08/04/14

Ok how cute is this little table? I picked it up a couple weeks back at this great barn filled with lots of fun goodies. If you’re in the area you need it check out Dove Cottage. She sells Chalk Paint too 🙂

BLUE SIDE TABLE MAKEOVER & MIXING CHALK

PAINT

Blue Chalk Painted Table

Painted Table Before

I’ve signed up for a couple Blogger Outreach programs recently with some different paint companies and couldn’t be more excited to try some new products. BUT, that means waiting for my goodies to arrive which takes time. And I’m very impatient, running out of paint, and am too lazy/cheap to go buy more. SO I improvised and tried my hand at some mixing again 🙂

Since I have a lot of Napoleonic Blue left over, that has been my base color for mixing. I used it on this piece as well.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Here’s the cool thing about mixing: You can mix Chalk Paint with Latex Paint (gasp)! I wanted to lighten up the blue so I just threw in some left over Aqua Glass that I used on this table a while back. It keeps all the characteristics of Chalk Paint and works like a charm 🙂

I decided to keep a little bit of the wood exposed on the drawers and then sealed this baby up with some dark wax.

There was also two veneer stripes on the top that I didn’t realize were as raised as they were and were visible after I painted over them. I really didn’t feel like sanding off the paint and removing the veneer so I just added some distressing around them. Not quite sure how I feel about it haha.

So what do you think of this little blue makeover? I can totally see it in a bathroom used as a cute storage table, or even in a baby’s room!

If you follow me on Instagram, you saw my newest Craigslist finds I picked up last week and I’m so excited to start working on them! Stay tuned to see how they turn out 😉

Have a great day everyone!

Wonderful new look for that well loved piece. I always like finding good deals and transforming them into something new. Currently working on a changing table makeover for the nursery. Fun to turn someone else’s leftovers into new treasure to enjoy.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! 🙂

It makes sense that you can mix these two together – I make my own chalk paint using latex paint and plaster of paris. Love the transformation- such a cute little table.

The first thing I noticed were the stripes on top and how I thought that was a lovely unique feature. Wouldn’t have known it was an issue with veneer because luckily, they’re evenly spaced and symmetrical!
Beautiful blue. Really makes the wood trim around the drawers pop!

Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected Oh 2020. While it wasn’t what any of us expected I’m focusing on all the good that came out of it. I remember sitting with Dan New Year’s Eve last year and being so hopeful for what our future held and praying it would bring us another baby after we had been trying with no luck. I found out only a couple weeks later I was pregnant and that joy carried us through the year even though it brought fear and worry along with it. Besides welcoming our sweet baby girl into our lives we experienced so many other amazing things. The time we got to spend as a family is something we’ll always cherish. We worked on so many projects together and continued to pour our hearts into making this house a place we can call home. And we built A LOT of arches 🤣 Eloise was on the cover of a magazine, Hawk’s hair grew back in full force, we beat Covid and captain Christmas reminded us what the holiday season is really about. but most importantly we leaned into god and relied on him more than ever to get us through each day. That’s the relationship I want to continue to work on and I’m grateful that this year nudged me closer to the One who deserves all the glory and continues to be faithful 🙏🏻 happy new year friends 🤍 cheers to 2021 🍾

Which view do you prefer? 🤪 we compromise every Which view do you prefer? 🤪 we compromise every year: Dan and his dad get their giant artificial tree with colored blinking lights, handmade ornaments (and this year, tinsel) and I get my real tree with white lights and neutral ornaments. If you’ve been following all the Captain Christmas adventures on my stories you know I let Dan go all out and he hung tinsel garland and colored lights ALL over our house. I decorated a few small areas but I was getting SO unnecessarily stressed thinking about decorating our entire home and creating perfect content for you guys. So I said F it and it felt SO good. And it brought so much joy to him and the kids. And for that, it was worth it 🙌🏻 there’s nothing wrong with a beautifully styled Instagram worthy home but this time of year should be a reminder of the things that truly matter in life - and I don’t want to miss out on them. However you decorate for christmas I hope you can find joy in it 🙌🏻 and maybe let go of those picture perfect expectations a little 😉 captain Christmas stories are saved in a highlight! 🎄#2020 #breinspired #ohchristmastree
