DIY Lattice Craft Organizer :: Monthly DIY Challenge

Date

Not gonna lie, this month’s DIY Challenge snuck up on me. I was so focused on working on my Mint Buffet that I didn’t even have time to think about what I was going to make! And the theme this month is Trash to Treasure which is basically everything I’ve ever done. I really wanted to do a piece of furniture, but I just didn’t have the time.

So last Friday, I had to take the hubs to work because our other car was in the shop. After I dropped him off, I headed on my way (going a different route I usually do).

Well the skies parted and God was looking out for me because IT WAS TRASH DAY! Of course, I did the creepy slow drive by trying to scope out the curbside goods. Low and behold, I spotted this amazing lattice.

I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but even though people put this stuff out to throw it away, I still feel like I’m doing something wrong by taking it.  Honestly, I had no idea what I was going to do with it, but I had a legit trash item that I was determined to turn into a treasure 🙂

Trash To Treasure

It’s plastic, which was fine by me and I was seriously having such a hard time trying to figure out what to do with it. Before I even had a plan, I saw this spray paint I picked up a little while ago and just went for it. (Yes I know I have a mint problem :-p)

Once I got to this point, I was still stumped. I reached out to my bloggy buds and they gave me some great ideas. Of course my first thought was turning it into some sort of hanging planter thingy, but we just don’t really have anywhere to put it and I know I wouldn’t keep up with it.

My next thought was to turn it into a display for my gift tags. I’m taking part in a Craft Show this summer and it would be a great way for people to peruse them. That lead to my final idea of making a Craft Supply Organizer/Inspiration Board.

I already had pretty much everything I needed, but I couldn’t resist going to pick up a few more cute supplies from Michaels. I really wanted to throw some air plants on it but I couldn’t find any! Where the heck do you buy those suckers? I checked Home Depot and Lowes and both were a no go.

And I made an inspirational print to go front and center. I don’t know how I’ve never seen this before, but it’s definitely my mantra.

“To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.”

Then I just spray painted some clipboard clips I had and started attaching a bunch of goodies! I also had these arrow pulls I got a while ago but they just looked funny on furniture. But they were perfect for my lattice!

Now I just need a craft room to hang this baby in 😉 I guess our spare room will do for now.

This turned out so freakin cute, Bre! Love the mint color that you choose, so pretty! haha, I am glad I am not the only one that feels the same way when grabbing peoples trash that they set out in from of their house. I always feel like people are watching me out their window thinking “what is that weirdo doing going through my trash” But hey, I bet if they saw what we do with their trash, they would think twice about throwing it out! Out neighborhood cleanup is soon, and I am soooo looking forward to driving around and feeling my car up with junk 🙂

It turned out so cute! Love the mint, and it’s the perfect backdrop for all your crafty stuff. Oh, and I totally feel like a creep picking up people’s trash! I try to do it really quick and secret-like, which probably makes it 10 times more creepy than if I just picked it up like a normal person :).

Love this! How did you mount it to the wall so that sufficient space is between the wall and the lattice, but it’s still strong enough to hold items?

What a great idea Bre and so pretty too! I could use one of these in my office because digging through my craft tub every time I want to find something is just frustrating. This will be such a stunner display at the craft show for your tags. Geez those plastic lattice sheets aren’t cheap, can’t believe someone would put it out for the trash.
