Mint Chair with Gold Wax

Date

(Thank you to Country Chic Paint for supplying the paint used for this project. All opinions are 100% my own).

Remember when I told you Country Chic has the best paint colors? I wasn’t lying. This mint color from their limited edition line is just another example! It’s called Refreshed and I’m in love 🙂

I previously did a Coral Table Makeover with Country Chic’s paint in the color Full Bloom, and LOVED how it turned out!

MINT CHAIR WITH GOLD WAX

Mint Chair Completed

I usually don’t do a lot of chair makeovers, but my mom was persistent in giving me this one. Someone left it at the dump and she scooped it up and I have to say I’m glad she did!

Cane Chair Before

I started out by spray painting the back spindles and the cane seat gold with Rust-Oleum gold Spray Paint.

Gold Spray Paint

Painted Gold Chair

I coated those parts with some flat topcoat and then once they were dry, I taped them off.

Taped off Chair

Time for some paint! I used 3 coats.

Country Chic Mint Paint

Now for the wax. I was really excited about this stuff. How cute is the little jar?! One of the things that initially drew me to Country Chic’s products is their packaging. I mean come on. It’s so stinkin cute!

Country Chic Paint Gold Wax

So here’s the low down on the wax. With my first attempt, I brushed it on using a wax brush and then immediately buffed it off.

Well the problem with that was, that it literally buffed it ALL off. It was like I never even put it on. Womp womp. I love the color of the chair and didn’t want it to be too gold but definitely wanted a little shimmer.

So attempt #2. This time I brushed it on with the wax brush again and let it stay on there for about 3-4 hours. This worked a bit better and it definitely left more of a shimmer but I’m thinking that this stuff works best with a distressed piece. I think it would cling to the crevices more and bring out those details.

Here’s a look at how it looked before and after buffing:

Before Buffing Gold Wax

After Buffing Gold Wax

As you can see it gets into those little divots and isn’t super overwhelming, which was what I wanted for this piece anyway. I definitely want to use it on a distressed piece and see how it differs!

Have any of you used gold wax before? How do you think it turned out on this piece?

Have a happy hump day everyone!
